  • St Joseph's Woodland ~ Commemorative Oak Tree

Have the identity of someone very special live on through the planting of a native commemorative tree in the unique setting of St Joseph's Woodland, Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The Woodland's 11,000 trees were originally planted in 1999 as part of a landmark project in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. A natural pond was created from an existing spring.
The Woodland is classed as a both a SSSI and Nature Reserve boasting an incredible array of flora and fauna species Wild deer graze freely amongst the bluebells and occasional rare burnt-tipped orchid.
St Joseph's Woodis a very special place where nature is embraced and life flourishes. All species of flora and fauna are welcome to grow, live and blossom creating a beautifully peaceful natural environment. The Woodland is only minutes walk from from the Upper, Middle and Lower forces of the iconic Aysgarth Falls  Water Falls which can be heard flowing gently through the trees. The Woodland's south-facing knolls reaching up to 220m AOD deliver dramatic panoramic views spanning miles across Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Walden Moor. Access to St Joseph's can be taken via short stroll through the Yorkshire Dales National Parks' ancient coppice woodland 'Freeholders Wood'.

Commemorative Tree Planting
 Have the identity of someone special live on through the planting of a native commemorative tree in the unique setting of St Joseph's Woodland, Aysgarth Falls. You may also choose to have the settling of ashes at the base of your tree as part of your tree planting. The range of native broad leaf woodland species includes Evergreen Oak, Sessile Oak, Holly, Rowan, Silver Birch, Hazel, Bird Cherry, Downy Birch and Ash. You are able to choose from a selection of tranquil locations for your commemorative tree.

Stone Engraving
 You may choose to have an engraved native limestone which are chosen from the fallen walls in St Joseph's Wood. This can then be placed face down at the foot of the tree.

The Planting of Your Tree
 You are welcome to spend time in the woodland enjoying the peace and tranquility to choose the perfect location for your tree. Prior to the day of your planting we will prepare the ground and your chosen tree.  On the day of the planting You, your Family and Guests are able to enjoy a guided leisurely stroll through the ancient coppice woodland 'Free Holders Wood' leading to St Joseph's. Once arrived at your tree you may participate in the planting as much, or as little as you wish. The placing of ashes and tree into the ground is a personal experience which you can enjoy in your own time. When you are ready, we will carefully secure your tree with a protective tree guard and support.
