St Joseph's Wood, Aysgarth Falls, Wensleydale
At the southern end of Manor Grange Farm, on land previously known as The Riddings, is new woodland now named St Joseph's Wood. 30 acres in size, this woodland was officially opened by Sir Chris Bonnington as a Millennium Project on 13 April 1999 after 11,500 trees had been planted.
The
wood consists of broadleaved, deciduous trees and was created primarily
as a wildlife area with the benefit of its own natural spring and pond.
Within the woodland there is a SSSI of botanical interest.
There are stunning views of Wensleydale from the high knolls within
the wood.
Woodland Memorial
There is an area set aside within the woodland for those
wishing to plant or adopt a commemorative tree in remembrance
of a family member or pet. The settling of ashes with a newly planted
tree is welcomed. The seclusion and tranquillity of the land have given
immense pleasure to those using this facility.
